Before we get started, we want to make it clear that we’re not asking for your money, we’re asking for your encouragement. We hear from a lot from people who complain, but far less often from those who are happy with our addons. We’re at a point where we have millions of people using our addons, with the numbers growing each month. Unfortunately, we still have the same number of people participating in our community as we did when the community was a quarter of the size. We want to change that, we want regular users to get more involved with the community, our discussion forums, and the development process.
Despite what some people may say, Kodi addon developers do not get paid anything at all for their efforts. They don’t make money off people using the addons they develop, and they don’t get paid by anyone. There are many reasons why developers participate in our community, and one has their own individual reasons for doing so. It could be that they want to improve their coding skills in a real life environment, or that they use Kodi themselves and wanted to create an addon that best suits their needs. Either way, they are doing this without receiving anything tangible in return.
We understand that most of our users might feel like they have nothing to contribute, but that’s not true at all. Imagine you spent hundreds of hours per month writing code for something that millions of people were using for free, wouldn’t it make you happy to hear positive feedback from those users? Developers do this selflessly, without gaining anything in return, showing them appreciation at our discussion forums (and giving feedback) goes an extremely long way. It actually gives them incentive to strive to to make their appreciative user base even happier.
It would really boost morale if all of our users would make an effort to visit our discussion forums reguarly in order to tell your favourite Kodi addon developers how much you appreciate their work. In addition to praise, Kodi addon developers also appreciate honest feedback. As long as your criticism is constructive, it could also help the development process. The point of this all is that we want our users to participate in the community some how, even if it just means hanging around and taking part in a discussion here and there.
Kodi is an open source platform, and our addons are based on the principles of sharing and collaboration, let’s take the community back from people who only look to make a profit from Kodi, and make it great again! Right now the people who are trying to make a quick buck off Kodi are very vocal on social media, they only care about money and in the process are causing harm to the people who actual do the work that allows you to continuously watch free content through Kodi.
We’re not looking for software developers or super heros, just regular people who want to make a difference by coming over to our discussion forums and saying hello once in a while. Furthermore, if you’re on social media, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and give us some positive feedback once in a while. It would really make a difference, if our developers are happy, they will developer cooler, more innovative Kodi addons for us all to enjoy! Thank you very much again to those who have continuously supported our community.
