I got an email from Amazon yesterday, saying I needed to upgrade the firmware on my AFTV if I wanted to continue using NetFlix. They released a new version of NetFlix, and it won't be compatible with the older firmware.

You have to go to the Amazon App Store on your PC, then "buy" Kodi. It will say it's incompatible, but just ignore that. After you buy it, you will have an option to send it to your AFTV. Do that, and it will show on your Home Screen.

You definitely have some sort of problem that you shouldn't be having, as far as the buffering goes. I have a AFTV in my living room, which is connected wirelessly to a router in my basement, and I have ZERO buffering issues. I can stream 30GB BluRay rips that are on my PC, and they don't buffer.
