Is there any physical remote with an accompanying RF / IR rcver (usb) that i can hook up to my HTPC running xbmc?
I dont want to use software based remotes over network, i want a physical remote and its rcver.
Preferably something that will work with XBMC.
i have seen a couple of remotes that might work:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboards/3848
above one is too bulky

http://www.amuletdevices.com/index.php/Remote-Controls/IR-Receiver/flypage.tpl.html
above - not sure if compatible with xbmc.

any ideas?

thx

If you just want a simple, cheap remote control that works out of the box with xbmc I can recommend one of these:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300657711268?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1952.l2649

The basic functions work like up, down, play, pause, next etc straight away, it has mouse functions and it can be configured in Windows so the buttons do whatever keyboard press you want,
although I couldn't be bothered with this apart from setting one button up to fire up xbmc so I can be the ultimate couch potatoe lol

I can only recommend the Logitech it's not as bulky as it looks like (this was also my concern), it's like built for XBMC with the keypad that is able to switch between cursor and mouse you can navigate through XBMC super fast, but expensive.

Otherwise there is this one: http://www.chill-innovation.com/ not so XBMC friendly, not so good quality but very versatile and very cheap.

+1 for the cec-adaptor if you do not need a whole keyboard and have a tv that supports it.

Good, and bad. I still have it, but am looking to replace. The good, it does control tv and PC. THE BAD, the remote side ONLY works with the TV... You must use the keyboard side to work the PC. Now it works completely, but not the solution I wanted.

where you using it on the atv1? I would try to set it up like this.
keyboard side to control xbmc to use keyboard to type searches etc..
set1 control xbmc navigation with arrow keys and menu (learning the apple remote) - question can you learn long presses?
set2 control avr for volume control learning from onkyo remote

would this work?

I purchased one the remotes recommended by stammie from ebay and it works great!

However I cannot figure out how to set up the custom hotkeys to launch XBMC etc.. anyone else have this remote and can help me out?

I seen this little USB->IR remote for PS3 at a local department store that I was thinking about trying to see if I could get working for PC, it's a pretty simple remote but it would be pretty cool if I could get it to work with XBMC.

It simply had the standard media control buttons SkipBack Rew Play/Pause Stop FFwd SkipFwd D-Pad Enter Menu Info (and another key; can't recall,) but I remembered it was one key short of having pretty much all the buttons on the XBMC Android remote, which was what caught my attention.

For $15 it seemed like something I'd be willing to try to see if I could get to work, if I couldn't get it just the way I wanted I could always take it back, I forget the brand now, so I can't really do a search for it, but if I go back there sometime soon I'll try to pick one up or at least get the name of it so I can see if anyone else has tried it, or would like to try it.
