One by one all the links seems to be blocked in the UK lost 1 Channel then Solar among others last night none of the darts links from Spo*ts De*il worked. On some links now the working symbol comes up and well just keeps going until you reboot and on my Macbook it crashes and freezes so often and if your lucky just closes itself. The Android box keeps itself updated as i can see updates added all the time so it is not just old programs.

Unfortunately, this is just the start of a wider picture. Porn filters from ISPs, stream and torrent site blocking are just a wolf in sheeps clothing. I don't want to get too political on this site, but the UK is becoming a "test bed" for the wider picture of a corporate "owned" internet. In 5-10 years net neutrality in the UK will be a thing of the past, where filters are applied and blocked at ISP level on so called "linked to terrorism sites" or "copyright" sites. Once it gets quietly implemented here it'll start to happen across the globe. If VPNs stay strong, in the future this is the only way we in the UK can achieve neutrality to access the internet without restriction.

Ok so I've just depressed myself......time to turn on the VPN and enjoy this while I can !!!!!

If push came to shove - I'd be happy to get a VPN sorted out. But despite looking through the site I still can't see a clear recommendation of which company's product is the best. Also as Im using an MX box - Im not certain I'd get it working...

good advice mirageuk

there is also interesting work going on behind the scenes at the very least with yify and tpb

Code:
http://torrentfreak.com/how-yify-torrents-is-battling-the-internet-censors-131214/
http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-docks-in-peru-new-system-will-make-domains-irrelevant-131212/
there is also some development with proxies going on at xbmc.org

there will always be ways to get around censorship

I use priviate internet access. It's the first and only VPN I've used. I did a bit of research before choosing what was right for me. This list gave me the best insight https://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-providers-really-take-anonymity-seriously-111007/

There maybe better out there, but not being too technically minded this was easy enough for me to set up on pc's, I-products (not Apple TV though) and android, though I did have to do a bit of messing with my OUYA with the Aptoid app.

I agree you could do everything with proxies etc as MirageUK suggested, but I just wanted something to turn on and forget about. Each to his own I guess !

I'm also completely new to this...

Looking at XBMC online it looked amazing and I couldn't believe the endless possibilities. Downloaded and installed but hit a lot of walls. For myself I had the following requirements for XBMC:

1. Play On Demand content (ITV Player, BBC iPlayer, 4OD, Demand 5, Sky Go)
2. Play content from my NAS
3. Listen to live radio
4. Watch Live TV (Fre*view and the channels which are available to me on Sky Go)
5. Access Movies and TV-Series for streaming

(Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the following)

1. Play on Demand
4OD, Demand 5 and Sky Go (On Demand) are not accessible. Only ITV Player and BBC iPlayer work. With regards to Sky Go (On Demand), is it possible for XBMC to just launch a browser with me logged into Sky Go so that I can access the on Demand stuff manually through the browser?

2. Play content from NAS
Works perfectly

3.Listen to live radio
Works perfectly

4. Watch Live TV
With regards to Fre*view, previously users were using FilmOn but from what I have read this now has advertising before playing the channel. I tried using FTV but for some channels the stream was very slow. Is my only option to get a steady stream to setup my own PVR with a video card? With regards to Sky, I have seen that there is an add-on which enables live streaming of the available Sky Go channels - Does this still work? (Annoying to change my device for Sky Go as it only lets you change it a certain amount of times per month so don't want it to be a waste)

5. Access online movies
Everyone was using 1Ch**nel but this is now not working in the UK due to ISPs blocking. Is this going to be a common problem even when I do find an alternative? I have seen an interesting thread for setting up your own Pri**wire proxy and was wondering if other people had been successful in implementing this? (If not then it will have to be VPN)

Sorry for all the questions...

Last question, once I've got everything up and running, will it work for a long period of time or will I always have to be changing my add-ons as sites get blocked, or content gets changed (DRM etc)?

Thanks and apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Firstly what device are you using for XBMC?

With regards to Sky Go I think you're better off asking at xbmc.org about it where I believe the addons author released it.
I've not used it myself but there is a launcher addon that will launch programs or browsers from within XBMC, again reading up on it at xbmc.org would be a good idea unless someone here who uses it can jump in.
From what I've read 4OD and Demand5 both use some nasty DRM techniques to protect their streams and XBMC addons are unikely for either in the near future,
if you're using a pc the good old fashioned web browser is going to have to do for those, if you're using an Android or IOS device then you will have to use their apps.

As far as Fre*view channels go you can get some Fre*view and Freesat channels via the tvcatchup.com addon, or if you're using a pc you could buy a Fre*view USB dongle fairly cheaply and use it with XBMC's PVR functions.

As to your last question, sites that the addons scrape can change many times, most addon authors are very good and quickly get on top of any changes and submit a new version of the addon to their repository, as long as you've installed the addons you're using via a repository any changes the dev makes to an addon should automatically get upgraded on your setup when you fire up XBMC.
If sites get blocked at the ISP level there's nothing a dev can do about it, you really need to be looking into using a VPN or setting up your own proxy if you are using sites that are on the UK blocklist, the various free proxy's that spring up to get round the blocks will soon get blocked too.

Thanks for all the information - really useful.

I'm using Windows (Wanted to use Linux but needed Windows to support Silverlight for Sky Go etc.)

I had no idea about USB Fre*view Dongles so that will solve that issue and I will get the addition of being able to record programs!

I think my only questions which aren't fully answered are in relation to on demand. With regards to Sky Go, I'll either give it a try or head over to XBMC.org. With regards to 4OD and Demand 5, when you suggest that I just use the normal web methods, do you know if there is a way to launch this through XBMC E.g. Have an icon for 4OD somewhere in XMBC which then launches a browser with 4OD logged in with my user account and when leaving the browser, XBMC will be in focus (Not so concerned if XMBC is just minimised and I have to click on it to get it up again).
