Use the command lines instead of NITO:

1 Installing from the command line

Open up your terminal/ssh application and enter the following command to log in to your ATV2. Note, you need to replace "YOUR.ATV2.IP.ADDRESS" with the IP address of the Apple TV:
ssh [email protected]S
EXAMPLE: ssh [email protected]
You will be asked for a password: default password is alpine
Continue to enter the following commands:
apt-get install wget
wget -O- http://apt.awkwardtv.org/awkwardtv.pub | apt-key add -
echo "deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org/ stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
echo "deb http://mirrors.kodi.tv/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list
apt-get update
apt-get install org.xbmc.kodi-atv2
reboot
And you're done! You should now be running Kodi v14.0 Helix for Apple TV 2. See here to verify your Kodi version.

Never done anything like this before? I tried typing in [email protected] MYATV2IP into my browser and into the run command section of Nito installer and nothing has happened.

I googled ssh application and saw something in the app store - do I need to download that?

Totally lost as to what I am meant to do?????

UPDATE:
So I found a video on YouTube which says the ssh thing is a programme on my mac which I have found - but when i type the command [email protected]. in nothing happened. I then put ssh in front of it and it said could not resolve host name, nodename nor servant provided, or not known?

You need an application to start. Depending upon whether you use Mac or Windows, use Cyberduck or your Mac's Terminal application.

Then you need to know the ip address of your apple tv2. You will find it under system settings.

Then just connect and type in the commands above.

Thanks again for all your help GoodKnight...

I have run the commands and when I hit reboot the ATV just went dead to a black screen - it didn't really reboot. The screen is blank but the light is on on the box, is this correct? Should I turn off my ATV2 at the mains and switch it on again or has something gone wrong?

Thanks

EDIT:

It has rebooted but there's no sign of XBMC and I can't login again using SSH terminal to try the process again???

It says connection closed by remote host?

Does this mean I have to jailbreak the unit again or something?

Thanks VitalSigns, but nothing is working.

Can't connect to my ATV using Terminal now and running uninstall on Nito installer does nothing. If I reset the ATV i get the apple logo then nothing... just a black screen.

Been trying to sort this out for hours and hours now and I've got a headache. Maybe if I turn it off and leave it over night it'll fix itself.

That's all I can think of at this point.

Bought the thing off someone on this forum and it's never blooming worked properly. Grrrrr!

After doing a little research it seems that trying to re-install XBMC using the SSH method outlined in this thread and the Kodi site has caused my ATV (and potentially my other apple devices, though I'm hoping it's just the ATV) to pick up a virus.

I'd advice anyone thinking of trying this method to think twice. :-/

Okay Guys,
Everytime there is an Xbmc update, I use Nito tv. The thing is be patient with Nito. You always update from inside Maintenance and at the bottom, you will see Kodi NOT INSTALLED. Click install, but its going to take a couple RE-TRYS and at least one plug out reboot before you finnaly see Kodi installing. Another option you have to do to lessen the load on Apple Tv is to go inside Nito to PACKAGES and delete the old Gotham 13.2

What is confusing to me is this....

NitoTV on the Apple TV 2

Scroll right to the NitoTV menu on the Apple TV and choose the first option "Install Software".
Scroll down the list until you see "Kodi-ATV2" and click on that.
From that menu press "install" and your Apple TV will install XBMC/Kodi and then do a SOFT reboot (no tethered boot required).
XBMC/Kodi will now be in your Apple TV menu, scroll right to it, click and enjoy.

Nito tv has NO OPTION for KODI
