If you are anything like me, you purchased a few chromecasts as soon as they were released to the public. Furthermore; you have searched for months to discover a way to get XBMC, from your mobile, to CAST to your TV. Sadly, thus far there has been little to no progress in this area. That is... we didn't know what we already had.

XBMCHUB.COM's sister site, XBMCANDROID.COM, did a lot of work last year to bring the masses something called The XBMC XAF Build (for android). This fork of XBMC provided users the ability to select an EXTERNAL PLAYER to use within XBMC. Initially this provided our community the ability to play HD content as the feature hadn't been available in the official builds at that time.

Well, to our surprise, a user on YouTube pointed out that this XAF BUILD was also able to be used to bake CHROMECAST functionality into your mobile android XBMC experience. Confounded, I tested and verified its success.

How is it done?

1) Go to XBMCANDROID.COM and download the appropriate XAF build.

2) Install this on your mobile android device.

3) Open XBMC at least once and allow it to load cmpletely before closing it.

4) Navigate to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/XBMC/user data (contrary to popular opinion you will need root access to get into this folder)

5) Place this file in that directory:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/d8pl1adtlo8rp90/playercorefactory.xml

6) Now go to the Play Store and install and app call AVIA media player. (Activating chrome cast feature costs $2.99) make up your own mind... I'm not responsible for your decision.

Once done... Open xbmc, install the XBMCHUB.COM WIZARD, open an addon, and play a video. Now it will open in AVIA and provide you with a Chrome cast option.

THIS DOES WORK ;)

Special thanks to Vincent Russell - the YouTube user who's video pointed this out to us.

What is the advantage with This? The ability to watch netflix on Xbmc?
Depends on your set up and desire. If you would rather NOT have a dedicated XBMC device Then this allows you to spend $30 and have Netflix.. Hulu... XBMC... Ext.

Also NO... this isn't sending chrome cast content TO XBMC. It is sending XBMC content AS chrome cast content.

Not that I am aware of. Sorry.

Anyone have a method for Chromecasting XBMC without rooting your phone? Most expensive phone I've ever bought and I'm not about to void my warranty.

I think by root access, show gun meant that you just have to turn on the hidden files feature in your file manager. No need to root your phone. Hope this helped.

I just installed the Avia player on my Galaxy S2 and I have my DLNA server set up on XBMC. I paid the $2.99 for the chromecast capability and now I can stream all of my media located on my media server in my living room to my TV in my bedroom with the chromecast. It works pretty well.

Not likely for XBMC as files are located in the "root" file directory.

Try this... Install XBMC

GO TO XBMC AND OPEN SYSTEM/APPEARENCE/FILE LISTS/

Enable the ability to see root files and the ability to rename/delete items.

Reboot the phone

Launch XBMC

Go to File Manager

Attempt to navigate to the XBMC Folder lath described in first post.

Report back.

Does this allow the playing of xbmc addons like 1Ch**nel etc
or just enable you to cast your own media files

Hey all,

When I use this method (which worked before I installed hubwizard addon), I get this message on my TV from Avia:
"Sorry, Chromecast does not currently support this file type"

Thank you so much for the quick reply! Your caps lock helped elucidate things :p

I saw YIFY in hubwizard, but couldn't find TV online, even after clicking "get more". Where might I find it?
