I bought one of these however had no luck streaming 720p.

Strange thing is the box just says mx on the top but had the gbox mx2 4.2 firmware installed.

Wonder if this is related?

I'm sending back for refund.

Did I have a dud or can these boxes just not stream 720p smoothly?

Hmm sounds like they are hit and miss.

Real shame as everything else was fine with it.

Don't want to mess with factory resets etc as sending it back for refund today.

What are my other options for around the £100 mark?

The quad core boxes any better?

My galaxy note 2 runs xbmc fine but want something for the tv.

Whatever you get won't run very well if you use it "out of the box", so if its a problem for you to build it up yourself then you may be struggling tbh. The box you have is perfectly fine if you follow Showgun's post. In fact, that's probably one of the best out there in that price range.

I bought it off eBay as pre setup.

I also reinstalled xbmc and used wizard to add matricom settings. Still no good.

Should I risk buying another one?

Was gonna get a non pre setup one.

Already sent back.

Need to now choose between a genuine gbox (unsure how my clone was running matricom firmware) or quad core box with 2gb ram.

Yes. There is a version available from their store. If you want HD you can easily sideload the latest nightlies from XBMC.org
Thanks.

I realise we are now off topic. Oops.

Ordered one from maplin.
So no hd (720p) with store version? That sucks.

I'll have to jump on the devices thread for more information.

To Your Left
I think 1080 was the app store limitation. But side loading is easy. There is a browser you can download and install the other version without leaving the machine ;)
