Basic Sideloading of apps on the Amazon Fire TV:

2) Connect to your Amazon Fire TV via the Android Debug Bridge with ADB via command line with the code:

The general guide is identical.

Replace CMD prompt with the TERMINAL APP FOUND IN APPLICATIONS/UTITLITIES.

As to install android SDK on MAC... I would Google and YouTube it. Not trying to walk that one out here as there is a lot of info already available on that topic.

I did however just do another guide. If you have am android phone or tablet you can the entire thing without a computer or Android SDK nonsense.

Fire TV performance

Installed SPMC 12.3.3.apk per your instructions. I'm pretty thrilled so far I must say!
Hey Showgun and nickld...

Can you compare the XBMC performance on the Fire TV to other hardware that you have used? Specifically OUYA.

I have one OUYA and just sold my new second one because this was out and I was thinking of switching. Thoughts?

I'm still evaluating the Fire TV. But my feeling is that navigating the menus is snappier than the Ouya. I'm holding off on switching completely because of the lack of ability to mount a USB hard drive on the Fire TV. It does seem to work just fine streaming my local files over Samba though. My goal is portability and low power consumption. The Fire TV will be great at home streaming from NAS. Until the USB issue is resolved, and I believe it will be before long, the Ouya will still be my travelling unit. Cheers!

First of all Showgun, thank you for all of the guides & your expertise. I went through the process & got the success message in the command prompt. I expected to look in Apps on the Ftv & see something there that i needed to click on to initiate the install of the XBMC build I chose to install through the SDK. Noting is there. What should I be looking for at this point?

Whoops... Found it under System/applications/

showgun, I saw in a different thread that you sent your Fire TV back. So whats the story there? This comment was directly responsible for me selling an OUYA and buying the fire. So you werent too happy with much trouble it was to install?

nickld, I dont do local streaming or use a mounted SD card, so that really isnt a concern for me. Those two issues aside, would you recommend the Fire Tv?

You would have to ready more of my posts to see that I was going to return it ONLY because I had no issues with my OUYA. I purchased it originally for the sole purpose of getting it running smooth so that I could create guides for our community.

When I saw it was ADB only I knew that put a majority of our users in the dark. Because if this I was going to return it as it isn't (user friendly). I then decided to go ahead and do guides for those who could handle it. It was at this point I discovered how awesome it was (for me). XBMC... Android Gaming... Other services (if you pay for Hulu... Netflix... Amazon instant video)

No insult intended here... But it is a poor mans XBOX ONE. Out of frustration with OUYA's failings in every area I decided to go Xbox one (and I love it). Had I had this I can assure you I would have stuck with an android echsystem much longer.
