Periodically kodi decides not to open and have to go through the whole deleted the guisettings.xml Re-open Kodi to establish new .xml but have to go in and change everything once again. I've even copied the existing guisettings and replaced the new .xml file details but system doesn't update to changes.

why does this happen? About 3-4 times a month.

Sorry, this is a first for me. Where did you get Kodi from? If it was from the Windows Store, remove it completely, download the 64 bit version (assuming your Windows version is 64 bits) from http://kodi.tv/download
See if that fixes things.
If your version is already from the Kodi site, try re-downloading and reinstalling.

Direct from Kodi's Download Site https://kodi.tv/download Win 10 and 64 Bit Installer.
Happened again today. So, renamed the "gui", rebooted to get the new "gui" and still even after updating "gui" settings via the .xml file. Kodi doesn't recognize those changes and have to go through the whole process.

In this case, you might want to post your problem at the Kodi.tv forum to get the best possible from the Kodi devs themselves. Just be sure you don't have any illegal addons on your system if they ask for a log of sort.
