M8 vs Amazon fire Tv or MX3 etc

I am about to replace my raging ATV 2 with one of the boxes in the title. I can't chose between the M8 or the AFTV. I have no need for Netflix, amazon prime etc at the moment.

Help!!

Thanks in advance,

Stu

I find the M8 to be a crappy box. IT ran okay on Linux but that was as far as I went with it. I stay away from boxes that don't have a website for support for their hardware and rely on others to develop firmware. Fire runs Kodi well and it is fast and stable for me.

Thanks for the reply, not keen on the FTV due to the restrictions, would a 2gb version of the MX3 be better?

I found the m8 4k with android 4.4 to run quite well. Once rooted and I remove the m8 launcher and use SPMC as the home launcher everything ran fine.

as far as Netflix and, or prime etc, you don't have to use these features on the AFT, they are just a bonus.
Having had several of these, i prefer them to m8 anyway. They are so simple to install KODI and you are watching in minutes'

Have a look at the T8. They seem to get rave reviews and are considerably better than the m8.

I own all three of the devices mentioned in this thread, 2 of them have ended up back in their box in my ever growing cupboard of xbmc/kodi devices. The only android device I use now is the T8 which is in my bedroom. My primary device is a home built HTPC.

Thankyou, a little expensive for me i'm afraid. I have gone for an AFTV. seems to work fantastically. Thanks for all the input.

Set it up last night and compared to the atv it is so much quicker. Im impressed with how well it runs. 1080p streamed worth no buffering whatsoever

Just interested, what made u go for the aftv? Was it cost alone or are the specs up there with the best of them?
And how's the remote?

Cost was similar to the mx3 or m8. Part of the reason was a reliable warranty. The specs are pretty good, lower than the other 2 but at least you know what you are getting. The remote is pretty good, responsive and doesn't have to be lounge of sight which is a bonus

Bought my AFTV for $60.....there are promotion at amazon that cut AFTV to $35 if you want to cut cable cost....plus all the benefit if you're amazon member..…no need to root it you can sideload any things to device.…..the device always up to date by amazon so worry free update like others..…..and the last you won't be disappointed.

You obviously did not read all of this thread, but having said that there are loads of them out there for sale. From Amazon website and from ebay as well as retail outlets. It helps to do a little reading. BTW IMO a very good device!!!! I hope this is what you were referring to in your post!!.

I have both, and both run Kodi and addons quite well.

I prefer picture quality on the AFTV. AFTV also seems to be built better and a plus on the bluetooth remote.

The M8 is fine but the remote seems to be built cheap but it works, i have attached an Rii keyboard remote for less than $20 on amazon and makes a perfect combination for the M8....application stability is close to the same on both. Price point...if you're not in the states or UK then M8 is cheaper because of shipping on the amazon fire. Hope that helps.

I also bought the AFTV and the M8 to replace my ATV2 - couldn't decide which to get so bought both and thought i'll keep the one i prefer. After just under 2 weeks of using both the M8 is going back. The remote is a complete let down, cheap and that terrible old button click sound on every press. Never really enjoyed the UI of Android as have always been an Apple fan. The AFTV has a great remote which is only missing the volume keys/function for me. Looks stylish and the box looks good also. Something about a blue triangle on the M8 which again just seems cheap and nasty. AFTV is like a good quality VW Golf - M8 is like a modified escort with engine chip, big exhaust and other crap.
I was hoping Apple would hit us with more apple tv hardware but not yet. So the AFTV will sit with me until then.
It's so much quicker than the ATV2 and the UI is smooth and easy to navigate. You just get that polished feel from it.
