Im so frustrated with my Apple box. I spent hours and hours reading and watching youtube videos on how to set it up. I decided to get the 1st gen silver one because it can potentially play HD movies with the Broadcom board. I created the patchstick and installed xbmc then loaded the repos, Spor**dev*l, N*vi X, 1Ch**nel etc.
TV shows and movies great but I was hoping to get my footy streamed in HD but no chance. All can find are pixelated streams through Spor**dev*l and N*vi X that sometimes freeze and kick me out.

So I speeded up my broadband, maybe this was the problem. I got myself fibre optic broadband with speed of 32mb, still poor quality SD footy streams.

So then I read further and decided to install crystalubuntu because apparently this gives a better performance in everyway.

So champions league night and still rubbish streams, HD footy seams a million miles away.

Ive got nowhere else to go now. Is this just how it is? Can I ever get HD footy streams?
Was I expecting too much?

Sorry I don't know what to tell you, the only fruit I like is raspberry - I tend to steer well clear of anything apple based unless it's cider.

I understand ATV1 has problems with HD streaming, but I can tell you windows, linux, r-pi and even android (with a hack) plays beautifully. I'm sure an apple fanboy will soon be on here with some detailed help and I wish you all the best but personally I'd sell it and buy a couple of raspberry pi's with the money :D

I have a few various devices running Xbmc and if the stream is sh*t then the stream is sh*t no matter what you run it on and most football streams are sh*t.

Oh no, dont say that, I ummed and ahhd for ages deciding on which one to choose. The raspberry pi seemed a bit compilication, it looked like you needed to know a bit about programming. I hope someone does come on and help me set it up correctly.
Thanks

Well it's very rare to find a good quality stream for free but if you subscribe to a website then the quality is great. I was watching a game the other day on starstreams and then realised it was on real telly so switched it over and watched about 5mins on digital Fre*view before going back to starstreams - the quality from the online stream was loads better. Unfortunately I don't think the ATV1 can handle the HD streams though, hopefully someone can put me wrong.

I know the raspberry pi can look a little daunting but honestly it's very simple to setup, certainly no programming knowledge or anything like that needed. You just need to know how to install a program in windows (raspbmc installer or win32diskimager) and then click a button - job done.

Yeah they can play up to 720 the same as Atv2 as standard and 1080 if you ditch the wifi and put the Broadcom card in its place.

most football streams are sh*t.
Nobody told me that when I was doing my research. But that is exactly the kind of thing I want to know.
So when i look on Na*i-X and it says HD football, theyre talking rubbish are they?
Streaming HD films through Ic*f*lms seems ok, for now?

I wasn't blown away with Xbmc under android, maybe the m3 box isn't powerful enough to do it justice, but converted to a Linux distro it's great.

The info here is spot on. There is HD content to be found for streaming... When it comes to TV shows and movies... When looking at live sorts streams... I have found ZERO dependable HD streams.

The source may be HD but the servers slow it down, or some thing similar. You can get lucky, but no dependable options in this arena yet.

As lee said subscription based streams are ok, but the free ones are usually very poor.

Well Na*i-X can occasionally come up trumps but at the end of the day that's just users adding streams out of the goodness of their hearts to share with everyone else. The majority of the time they are dead links, they may have worked once or twice but have since stopped working. Spor**dev*l is a great addon but don't expect great quality and certainly DO expect a bit of buffering! It's free so everyone and his dog uses it which causes overloads on the servers hence the buffering. If you want good quality streams you have to pay for them and signing up to a service is really hard work but a site has just opened yesterday so you might want to check out the thread on Footy Report. If you miss out on that it may well be another year until another one pops up again!

TV, movies, porn... anything pre-recorded you will find working HD streams no problem as they aren't live. They are HD files that are streamed to your device and the demand isn't as big as something like a live sporting event so the servers aren't hammered quite so much (and they are also stored on servers with massive amounts of bandwidth which helps a lot). End of the day you need a subscription, is the ATV1 up to the job? I don't know sorry.

So who do you recommend I subscribe to?

This is great info, thanks guys.
I was thinking everyone was getting hd quality free live footy streams. I feel better now that I know its not my set up.

As I just posted, there is only one available at the moment and it's so new there's not even an addon for it. Chances are there will be one within the next week or so but it's a gamble - who even knows how long the site will stay up? These sites limit subscriptions so the quality can stay great and nobody has to suffer buffering, this is why it's so hard to get in so if you're serious about wanting football I'd take the gamble and sign up at Footy Report asap. That said don't come crying to me if/when the site goes down, like I said it's all a bit of a gamble!
