how exactly do you run the addons_xml_generator.py? thats the only part I can't seem to figure out. I tried the above post version and the other version from the original file

This is an old post. if you want i modded the program a while ago for myself and fixed a few things in it so it would work with python 3.x. You can get what I did here : https://github.com/crzen/repository.crzen/blob/master/addons_xml_generator2.py

Just put the generator in the same folder as your repo and addon. Then run it with IDLE (using Python-x.x)
Hope this helps
Just wanted to say Thanks for publishing the script. I'm using it in the new FTV-Guide-Repo as well.

I made a couple small changes to it which might just be specific to my requirements but maybe your're interested anyway... You can see the version here:
https://github.com/bluezed/FTV-Guide-Repo/blob/master/addons_xml_generator.py

Thanks again :)

Just wanted to add to this again...

Looks like with Kodi, or maybe before too but didn't notice it there, when it shows my addon under "Updates available" you have the option of looking at the Changelog. However, the file it is looking for on the server is not just changelog.txt but changelog-x.x.x.txt which the generator-script doesn't create.

I've updated the script again to take care of that. In case someone's interested it's still here:

so i have setup a standard repo so people can use or create there own on there drop box

what you need to do is download this zip

and extract it in your public folder in your dropbox

so your directory will look like this

DropBox/Public/My-Repo/

there is a readme.txt included

obviously you will need to do simple editing of some files which is all in the readme

GOOD LUCK!!!!

as of october 2011 dropbox has stopped public folder but there is a way around it

create a Public Folder with a capital "P"

open a new tab

then go to this url

https://www.dropbox.com/enable_public_folder

NOTE: to get your public number you need to download the software put something in you public folder locally and right click on it and click on "Get public Link"

youll see your number there
This zip link is dead im looking to start my own repo can anyone help me the instructions on the kodi wiki are very helpfull thanks in advanced.

All the download links to My-Repo.zip are dead. In the interest of helping other people to create their repo, here's a new working download link. The addons_xml_generator.py is not updated, so be sure to grab the updated addons_xml_generator.py offered by other posters.

I've got a couple questions before i delve into this for the first time.
If I already have a vps and a subdomain setup awaiting repo files, do I need to use github?
Can I just work with python on my local machine and then upload after running the generator?
(assuming I can figure out how to get that far!!)
