If you’re one of those people who is a bit paranoid, or have too many untrustworthy repositories installed, you may want to consider disabling automated updates for Kodi addons. This will prevent an untrustworthy repository from hijacking one of your other Kodi addons. As a result, you’ll have to manually approve any addon updates, and if you forget you’ll be left with broken addons. In case it’s not clear, we’re not recommending that anyone do this, simply explaining how for those advanced users who wish to have more control over their Kodi experience.
If you disable automated updates, it’s an all or nothing type of thing. Nothing will pop up to notify you of updates, you’ll have to manually go deep into the Kodi menus in order to approve individual addon and dependency updates. If you forget to manually approve updates as necessary, it could result in a highly degraded Kodi experience. It is for that reason we don’t necessarily recommend disabling automated Kodi addon updates. After reading all this, if you’re sure you wish to disable Kodi addon auto updates, follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Navigate to the settings cogwheel at the top left corner of the Kodi interface.
Step 2: Select the System settings icon.
Step 3: Select the Add-ons tab from the vertical menu bar.
Step 4: Click on the Updates field which displays Install updates automatically by default.
Step 5: Choose the Notify, but don’t install updates option.
Please note that it won’t actually notify you until you are inside of the updates menu, there’s notification prompt or anything that will display so its easy to forget.
Step 6: In the future, check for updates manually by navigating to the Add-ons tab on the main Kodi menu, and then click on the Available updates icon at the top of the interface.
Step 7: Click on the Kodi addon for which you wish to install an available update.
Step 8: Click on the Update button at the bottom center of the window.
Step 9: Choose the update version which you wish to install, take notice of which repository it is coming from.
