We’re sorry to be the ones to have to tell you this, but if you’re still running Kodi 16.2 Jarvis or below – your Kodi is for lack of a better word: obsolete. Older version of Kodi are incapable of accessing the latest generation HTTPS streams and may be open to serious security threats. It’s been almost a year since Kodi 17.0 Krypton was released, and almost two years since Kodi 16.0 Jarvis was released. There’s really no excuse not to upgrade at this point, older versions are basically no longer functional when it comes to online streaming. Rest assured, the latest Kodi release is still free of charge, with the upgrade process being fairly straight forward.
Upgrading to the latest version of Kodi will mean a substantial increase in the number of working streams, an improved user interface, and faster performance. There’s no reason to be running a crippled Kodi, older versions are simply outdated and incompatible with newer technologies. Kodi addons are always designed around the latest stable Kodi release, so upgrading is essential to maintaining addon compatibility. You wouldn’t wait two years to upgrade your smartphone’s firmware, so why wait this long to upgrade to the latest version of Kodi? Get with the times, upgrade Kodi today and continue streaming like the rest of us!
We’ve designed the guide below to be as newbie friendly as possible. If you’re not sure what version of Kodi you’re running, navigate to the System info tab under the SYSTEM menu heading. Find the version number displayed next to the Build field.
Android Users: Those of you who are running older devices or cheap Android boxes might run into some trouble. Kodi 18.2 Leia requires Android 5.0 or higher to run. If your device doesn’t support Android 5.0, you’ll need to buy a new Android TV box in order to continue to enjoy Kodi. Alternatively, you could try FTMC.
Apple TV 2 Users: Even though the last two versions of Kodi didn’t support the Apple TV 2, the device still seemed to work alright. This will no longer be the case moving forward, without HTTPS or HD support it’ll be next to useless, it’s time to purchase a new Android TV box.
