People are freaking out, big bad Microsoft has just announced their acquisition of GitHub. What does this mean for Kodi users? After all, almost all Kodi related development takes place over GitHub.
In the past, when it came to disputes with corporate giants, GitHub has generally sided with open source development and freedom of code. Even if code can possibly be used for illicit purposes, its existence and distribution through GitHub would be considered as purely educational.
GitHub probably couldn’t have continued running the way it was without a major acquisition. The overwhelming majority of GitHub accounts are free, without any form of ads or monetization. The bandwith and storage required are extremely resource intensive to say the least.
Right now it’s a tad too early to jump to conclusions. It is doubtful that Microsoft will be making any radical changes in the immediate future. After all, they don’t want to spur a mass exodus of developers to competing platforms like GitLab and SourceForge.
As a side note, we are always looking for new developers to get involved, please feel free to bookmark, fork, and contribute code through our community GitHub page.
