Before we start, we’d like to make it clear that until now there have been no cases of cryptojacking related to Kodi. Nonetheless, we have pushed an update to our Indigo tool which includes an anti-cryptojacking scanner, meant to prevent this ever increasing security hazard from victimizing our users in the future. Cryptojacking is a new type of security threat, in which the attacker uses other people’s systems to mine cryptocurrency without their consent. Cryptojacking can take different forms, generally through javascript on web sites, or through malware infected files.
We based our anti-cryptojacking scanner on a popular web browser plugin known as No-Coin. This script will scan your entire Kodi folder, as well as compressed files, for anything that has been identified as a known cryptojacking domain by the No-Coin community. For now the script requiries user intervention, meaning it will not run on its own, nor will it delete or disable anything without the user’s explicit orders. Anyone who has our Indigo tool and updated repository installed will automatically be able to take advantage of this new function.
Step 1: Click on the Add-ons tab from the vertical menu bar.
Step 2: Launch the Indigo tool at the right side of the screen.
Step 3: Click on the No-Coin Scan function towards the bottom.
Step 4: Wait a few minutes for the anti-cryptojacking scan of your Kodi folder.
Step 5: Once the scan is complete, you’ll see the results displayed on your screen.
Step 6: If you have no action to take, click on the No Action button at the bottom of the window. Otherwise, take action as recommended.
We are already working on improving and automating the detection of cryptojacking and other malicious scripts. For almost a decade, TV ADDONS has done as that is possible in order to protect the unofficial Kodi addon community from bad actors. If you have any questions or comments about this or other Kodi addons, please feel encouraged to visit our discussion forums for assistance. And before we forget, thank you to Shinzin for developing this important function.
