OpenSubtitles is known as one of the oldest and most respected subtitle services on the internet. They provide some of the best subtitles for an extensive array of content, that far exceeds what other subtitle services offer.
Until recently, the OpenSubtitles service could be easily installed through native Kodi functionality. However, for one reason or another, if you try installing it the old way, you’ll have to make an account in order to use it. Luckily, OpenSubtitles has now entrusted us with the official distribution of their new subtitle service addon which does not require any login whatsoever.
Step 1: Navigate to the PROGRAMS menu.
Step 2: Launch the Indigo tool.
Step 3: Click on the Addon Installer function.
Step 4: Select the Install Official OpenSubtitles Addon function at the bottom of the menu.
Step 5: Wait a few seconds for the process to complete.
Step 6: Click on the OK button when prompted.
Step 7: Return to your Kodi home screen, then navigate to the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu.
Step 8: Choose the Video menu from the vertical menu bar.
Step 9: Select the Subtitles menu from the vertical menu bar.
Step 10: Scroll down and click on the Default TV show service field which displays None by default.
Step 11: Select the OpenSubtitles.org by OpenSubtitles option.
Step 12: Repeat the last two steps for the Default movie service field, which displays None by default as well.
Step 13: Once you’re watching content that you wish to subtitle, press select to display Now playing bar and click on the first icon in the lower right corner of your screen, it is a circle with a screen inside of it.
Step 14: Click on the Download button within the Subtitles function.
Step 15: Select the subtitle you wish to use, you might sometimes have to try a few before you get the right one, but usually the closer to the top, the better.
Step 16: You’re done! Enjoy reading what they’re saying!
These types of subtitles are never 100% perfect, so it’s normal that from time to time you might encounter problems or bad subtitles, just try another Kodi subtitle option if that’s the case, usually that fixes the situation.
