It has been brought to our attention that yet anoher Kodi addon developer was targetted by rightholders earlier today. We don’t have much information yet, but a leaked letter and cryptic tweet seem to suggest that The_Alpha has ceased development of Kodi addons. The leaked letter was sent from the MPA (Motion Picture Association) via the newly formed Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment.
The MPA represents Disney, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal City Studios, Warner Bros, Netflix, and Amazon Studios. As part of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, also represented were Sky UK and the Premier League. They are together alleging that The_Alpha’s Kodi addon development violates their intellectual property rights.
From what we have heard, The_Alpha was also part of the Colossus repository which was closed earlier today. We have been told that he was previously part of a playlist addon called Bennu, and Phoenix before that. It seems that Bennu has closed along with other Colossus hosted addons such as Covenant and Death Streams.
We don’t really have any other information at the present time. We’re assuming they found out his identity after he posted a GoFundMe for an unrelated charitable cause, leaving his identity at risk. We have heard that it is possible that an arrest warrant has been issued in relation to him selling paid IPTV subscriptions, however that is just a rumour and has yet to be confirmed.
Although The_Alpha wasn’t part of TV ADDONS, we hope sincerely he’s okay. We also thank him for tweeting his support for us in his last tweet.
In case anyone would like to see a copy of the letter that was left at his home, here it is:
Please don’t forget that TV ADDONS is fighting on behalf of the entire community. We are fighting against the expansion of copyright liability and need your support. If we don’t win, there won’t be anyone left to fight this important battle against copyright bullies. Individual developers do not have the resources needed to mount that kind of fight.
