
Google just pulled the YouTube app from the Amazon Fire TV due to the fact that Amazon refuses to sell some of Google’s products, notably the Google Home and Chromecast. It really sucks that these two media giants would make users suffer over their squabbling. Luckily, you can still easily install Kodi to any Amazon Fire TV (or Fire TV Stick) and within seconds you’ll have YouTube up and running again! Installing Kodi onto your Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick should only take a few minutes, and no computer is required.
In the guide below, we’ll walk you through first installing Kodi to any Amazon Fire TV box, and then show you how to enable the YouTube addon that comes directly from the official Kodi addon repository. If you’ve never used Kodi, you’re really in for a treat. Kodi is probably the most popular unofficial app available for the Amazon Fire TV. Once you have Kodi installed to your Amazon Fire TV (or Fire TV Stick) you’ll see a whole new world of functionality and possibilities.
Part 1: Installing Kodi
Step 1: Navigate to the Settings menu of your Amazon Fire TV device.
Step 2: Select the Device menu icon.
Step 3: Click on the Developer Options tab.
Step 4: Click on the Apps from Unknown Developers function.
Step 5: Click on the Turn On button to proceed.
Step 6: Once ON is displayed next to Apps from Unknown Developers, return to the Amazon Fire TV home menu.
Step 7: Navigate to the Search function at the top of the Amazon Fire TV home menu bar.
Step 8: Input DOWNLOADER into the search.
Step 9: Click on the Downloader search term.
Step 10: Click on the Downloader app icon.
Step 11: Click on the Download button.
Please note that if you get the following error, you’ll have to login to your Amazon account from your computer, navigate to the Your Account section, then to Settings, then Manage Address Book. Once you’ve added an new address, you’ll have to click on Set as Default within the Manage Address Book menu. Lastly, you’ll have to reboot your device and continue from Step 7 of this guide.
Step 12: Press the Got it button if you’re prompted with the You got an app message.
Step 13: Click on the Open button.
Step 14: Press the Accept button once you’ve adjusted the screen.
Step 15: Click on the OK button to dismiss the information prompt, if one appears.
Step 16: Click on the address bar under the Enter the URL of the file you want to download field heading.
Step 17: Input the following Kodi download link using the on-screen keyboard, then press the Go button.

Step 18: Wait a few minutes for Kodi to download to your Amazon Fire TV box.
Step 19: Click on the INSTALL button to proceed with the Kodi installation on your Amazon Fire TV device.
Step 20: Wait a minute while the Kodi app installs to your Amazon Fire TV device.
Step 21: Click on the DONE button once it says that the Kodi app has been installed.
Step 22: Press the Delete button if you’re prompted by a file downloaded successfully notice after you’ve already installed Kodi as directed above.
Step 23: Press the Delete button again to proceed.
Step 24: Return to the main menu of your Amazon Fire TV.
Step 25: Scroll down to the YOUR APPS & GAMES section.
Step 26: Click on the See All button at the far right of the menu.
Step 27: Highlight (but don’t click) the Kodi icon, then press the Options button on your remote control. The Options button is the one with three lines.
Step 28: Click on the Move to front function.
Step 29: Return the main menu of the Amazon Fire TV.
Step 30: You’re done! Go ahead and launch Kodi (from the YOUR APPS & GAMES section) on your Amazon Fire TV for the first time.
Part 2: Enabling YouTube
Step 31: Click on the Add-ons tab from the vertivcal menu bar within Kodi.
Step 32: Click on the little box icon at the top left corner of the interface.
Step 33: Choose the Install from repository function.
Step 34: Select the Video add-ons category from the listing. You might have to choose the Kodi.tv addon repository first.
Step 35: Select the YouTube Kodi addon.
Step 36: Click on the Install button.
Step 37: Wait a few seconds for the YouTube addon to download and install.
Step 38: Return to the Add-ons menu, then launch the YouTube addon for the first time.
Step 39: Watch and enjoy YouTube once again on your Amazon Fire TV.
It might be a good idea to actually Sign In to your YouTube account as well, that way you won’t be stuck with any limitations on your use of the YouTube API through this Kodi addon.
